Senior Coordinator of Community Outreach - Starlight Children’s Foundation (2/21 - 3/23)

I was promoted from the PR Coordinator to the Community Outreach Senior Coordinator after nine months at Starlight Children’s Foundation. In this position, I work very closely with peer-to-peer fundraisers, esports teams, and stream teams. With four annual campaigns, I’ve recruited hundreds of broadcasters on Twitch and YouTube to raise over $250,000 to deliver happiness to seriously ill kids. I’ve represented Starlight at in-person events and conferences, and given recorded interviews about their mission and work. I support Starlight’s annual class of Stream Ambassadors in fundraising, networking, and more.

The best part of this job is meeting so many creative broadcasters, teams, and organizations that connect with Starlight’s mission. I communicate with hundreds of content creators every year, and have learned to trust my instincts and show my authentic self through virtual communications.

PR Coordinator - Starlight Children’s Foundation (6/20 - 2/21)

Every day was focused on writing and storytelling, from playful blog posts to media outreach to donor emails. I wrote over 15 blogs showcasing the ways Starlight programs deliver happiness, highlighting fundraising campaigns and sharing what our hospital partners are up to. As part of proactive media outreach, I secured coverage for Starlight and our partners in TODAY and local stations in North Carolina.

I love working with Twitch and Instagram streamers and have recruited over 50 streamers to participate in Stream For Starlight, Starlight’s year-round fundraising campaign focused on peer-to-peer connections. This includes Starlight’s top individual fundraiser in 2020 and a 60+ person stream team, resulting in over $21,000 raised and increased brand awareness just from these two examples. I have always been a remote employee at Starlight and am very comfortable communicating virtually.

Communications Specialist - American Red Cross Southern California Region (9/19 - 6/20)

As the only full-time communications staff located in the Orange County office, I am responsible for all hands-on communicaitons in daily activities. I counsel leadership on talking points and best practices, and attend events while promoting them on social media. It is important to consistently adhere to the brand's style guide, voice and design elements, and I ensure these standards are followed during all external communications. I work closely with the Region’s two other communicaitons staff, both of who primarily work at another site. I am skilled in remote work and sharing the Red Cross story with local media.

Copywriting - Freelance (9/19 - present)

I am currently a freelance copywriter in addition to my hourly position as a Communications Specialist. I write website copy and blog posts for a roofing company, and have written over 20 150-word podcast reviews for DiscoverPods.

Communications Intern - American Red Cross Southern California Region (10/18 - 8/19)

I monitored and logged press mentions using TrendKite and Cision, coordinated and updated multiple media lists, and engaged in press outreach. I created internal and external communications regarding emergency preparedness through newsletters, media advisories and social media posts. I created over 20 press releases and 50 social posts for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. In a monthly HTML newsletter I coded, our 2,000+ volunteers received information on the latest local events and emergency preparedness. I developed a Disaster Public Affairs Plan surrounding crisis communications and assisted in coordinating partnerships with local schools and business leadership organizations.

I received CPR/First Aid training and, during Disaster Action Team calls to house fires, witnessed first-hand the difference preparedness can make in an emergency. I have not only become a better writer, but a more informed and prepared citizen.

Storytelling Intern - UC San Diego (2/17 - 6/19)

I transcribed and consolidated more than 120 recorded interviews averaging thirty minutes into 300-word features. These interviews were conducted with philanthropic women in San Diego County and will be compiled into a coffee-table book for the Office of Gift Planning to use for promotional purposes.

As a storyteller, I determined the most affecting segments of interviews and transcribed them to be shared with the world. Employing proper grammar and editing techniques to transcribed documents was vital to speeding up the final editing process. During this internship, I refined my writing through observing edits made to my work.

Strategic Marketing Consultant - Harbert Roofing Inc. (6/17 - 11/18)

I began this position as Harbert Roofing was developing their marketing materials in-house but needed assistance with copywriting and editing. Because I understand their business goals and target market, I collaborated with a local marketing agency to develop copywriting materials for Harbert Roofing's website and customer communications. I consulted regarding effective display of their competitive advantage as a long-standing, family-owned business.

As a strategic marketing consultant, I was working closely with internal employees and an external marketing agency. I held this position remotely while attending college, and improved my communication skills over email and video chats.
